Silk reeling spirals are the foundation of traditional Chen style Tai Chi practice. Also known as Chan Si Gong; Chan (pulling), Si (silk) and Gong (skill achieved through applied effort over time). Silk reeling is a set of repetitive rotating, curving, coiling and spiralling movements combined with whole body relaxation, opening and closing movements, body alignment, rooting and breath work. This workshop will explore the art of the Tai Chi spiral and integrated body movements. Everyone welcome, all levels training together.

Lesson Content

  • The art of the spiral in Chen Tai Chi.
  • Silk reeling exercises / Chan Si Gong.
  • Rotational power in Tai Chi.
  • Integrated body movements.
  • Fang song, the skill of applied relaxation.
  • Rooting and grounding.
  • Body alignment and postural corrections.
  • Spiralling partner work.

Lesson Details

Dates: Saturday 25 May from 11.00am to 2.00pm.

Duration: 3 hours.

Cost: £27 per person pay in advance.

Number of Students: Limited to 8 places. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

Level:  Everyone welcome. No experience needed.

Format: Students must have the physical ability to stand and move around slowly for the duration of the workshop.

Studio Etiquette: Indoor shoes, socks or barefoot only in the studio please.

Parking: Free on street parking directly outside (unlimited on clinic side and 4 hours on opposite side). Further free on street parking in the surrounding residential areas. The Co-op car park is pay and display.

Workshop Cancellations: Advance online bookings for workshops can be cancelled and fully refunded outside of 48 hours before the class start time. No cancellations, changes or refunds within 48 hours of the class start time. Please contact to cancel. The time/date on your email will confirm whether a cancellation is permitted.
