Join our drop In Tai Chi and Qigong classes in Newport

Instructor Nicola provides authentic Tai Chi and Qigong training in a drop-in community class. You will learn the power of integrated body movement, through an aligned posture combined with deep breathing.  Nicola’s teaching style focuses on learning by method not mimic. Every movement has a purpose, whether postural health, physiological health or Traditional Chinese medicine health.

Each lesson is stand alone, it does not matter if you miss a week or more, you are welcome to attend when suits. Regular attendance will help you establish a home practice. This class is inclusive, open to all abilities and levels of students, everyone is welcome, whether seated or standing.

There are many health and wellbeing benefits of Tai Chi and Qigong practice: increase flexibility / calm the mind / mental release / improve circulation / gain new-found energy / hydrate the joints / improve posture / fall prevention / grounding and balance / body awareness / strengthen the muscles / increase bone density / detox / loosen physical tension / boost happy brain chemicals / aid chronic pain / improve all body systems (lymph, immune, central nervous, digestive, hormone, respiratory etc).

Dates:  3 September to 15 October  /  29 October to 17 December 2019.

No Class: 22 October 2019 (half term)

Day: Tuesdays

Time:  1.00pm – 2.00pm

Duration:  One hour.

Cost:  £6 for everyone.

Class Type:  This is an open casual class. No need to book in advance.

Payment Method:  Cash on the day. Please try to bring the correct change.

Suited to:  No experience necessary, beginners welcome. Open to all abilities no matter fitness level or physical restriction.

Ages:  Our students range from the age of 18 to 91. Some students will stand and move throughout the class, some will be seated throughout, and others will use chairs when needed. The majority of Tai Chi and Qigong movements can be adapted. Please note some parts of the class syllabus will include walking and stepping movements which are performed standing up.

Syllabus: Chen style Tai Chi silk reeling exercises and foundation movements, 8 Pieces of Brocade Qigong, 5 Animals Qigong, Qigong for Women and more. Location: The main church hall. Enter the church gate to the right hand side of the church front door as indicated by the red arrow in the image. Please follow the path alongside the church until you reach a white door on your left.  If you reach the double doors at the end of the path, you’ve gone too far as this is the entrance to the small hall.
